The Women Who Rock Student Collective welcomes Alice BagMedusa, and Carla DeSantis Black, three pioneering musicians, authors and educators, for a rare dialogue bridging punk, rock, and hip hop.  Alice was the lead singer of The Bags, the first female-fronted punk band to play the Masque during the West Coast punk revolution of 1977.  Medusa is a respected feminist hip hop pioneer who is known as the “God Mother of West Coast Hip Hop.”  Carla is the nation’s leading advocate for women in music and the founder of MEOW (Musicians for Equal Opportunities for Women).  This conversation will highlight how women musicians and performers utilize popular music in fostering community and social justice.
